“Vuka sizwe” is a southern African phrase which means “Arise you nation“.
In the light of our current socio-economic situation, I only saw it fit to use that title in the hope that it will send some positive energy out into our seemingly sleeping/slacking nation.
Am I patriotic? I’m not sure yet. Actually, I don’t know.
What I do know, however, is this:
That there are people who are in need of food and shelter in my country…
There are people in critical medical condition and need all the medical attention and supplies they can get – they need BETTER medical care…
I know that there are people who cannot afford to send their children to school…and people who need good roads to transport their produce to the market so they can make some money…
And war crime victims in need of rehabilitation…
…among so many other people in need…
So yeah, positive energy, go out there and wake those sleeping lions and lionesses out of their slumber! We need them to dominate; we need them to ROAR. Vuka Sizwe!
We need those learned people, those professionals with white collar jobs. We need those businessmen in their 4WD cars, those musicians with their instruments and persuasive lyrics, hairstylists, journalists, engineers, doctors and those pompous brats who earn their living through the sweat and blood of the people they exploit. We need you to go out there, take a stand and get your hands dirty in building our country. Say bye, bye, to foreign aid and hello to the real Sustainable Development, the African way.
WAKE UP, Uganda!
